WEST PALM BEACH (September 1, 2011) – The Palm Beach Zoo has just announced its gala date for the 2012 season. Born To Be Wild will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012, at The Breakers in Palm Beach where it hopes to surpass last year’s achievement of raising over $1,000,000.00. The non-profit zoological organization houses over 1,400 animals within 23 acres of lush tropical habitat with a mission to provide an open-air classroom of living creatures to foster awareness, appreciation and respect for the natural world. Proceeds from the gala help the zoo to advance its mission to protect wildlife and wildlife habitat, and to inspire others to value and conserve the natural world.
Main Fundraising Event: Palm Beach Zoo Gala and Dinner Dance
Date: Friday, January 20, 2012
Location and City: The Breakers, Palm Beach
Theme/Description of Event: BORN TO BE WILD
Tigers are nearly gone. Three subspecies of tigers are already extinct. The worldwide tiger population has dropped from more than 100,000 in 1900 to fewer than 3,200 today. The World Wildlife Fund estimates that at the current rate of decline, tigers will be extinct within a generation. With proceeds for the gala helping the zoo to advance its mission to protect wildlife and wildlife habitat, and to inspire others to value and conserve the natural world, the zoo is also partnering with Panthera and the Wildlife Conservation Society through its Tigers Forever project to help protect tigers and their habitat. It is part of a global effort of which the Palm Beach zoo is proud to be a part.
