AREA ATHLETE ELLE WEBERG SETS SIGHTS FOR OLYMPICS

WEST PALM BEACH (February 23, 2011) — Four-time All American and Two-Time Outstanding All Female Athlete, Elle Weberg is focused and training full time with high hopes of qualifying for the Olympics. Weberg, the 6-foot breaststroke swimmer who trains at the Coral Springs Swim Club is making a comeback to the sport after a short hiatus where she was a finalist at the 2008 United States Olympic Team Trials and member of the U.S. World Championship team 2008.   Career highlights include: a silver medal at the World University Games in Bangkok Thailand in 2007, a bronze medal in the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the U.S. Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia in 2007, and World Rankings of 22nd (200M Breaststroke) and 25th (100M Breaststroke) in 2007.

Weberg, who is just 26 is making a run for the Olympics training twice a day six days a week in the hopes of qualifying for the Olympic Trials.  “Swimming and training to reach my Olympic goal is now my main concern in life,” says Weberg. “I feel like I can really appreciate it now that I am 26 and am really excited to make my dream a reality.”  To pay her way towards her Olympic quest, Weberg is teaching kids and training triathletes at the Biltmore and Palm Beach Towers in Palm Beach and teaching at private residences in Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, and Boca Raton. Her next big qualifying meet will take place at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California in August.  If she finishes in the top two in her event, Weberg will go on to represent the United States at the Pan American Games in Mexico later this year.

The Bloomington, Minnesota native started swimming at the age of nine, first learning on Bush Lake just outside Minneapolis.  Why she is just now focusing on Olympic training, Weberg says,  “It was really about finances. I had to figure out how I could devote myself to swimming without having another full-time job.” Weberg is working on garnering support through sponsorship, private donations, and working with area clubs to help finance her quest for the Olympics.  “Training full-time and trying to find funds so I can attend qualifying meets is tough to juggle, says Weberg, but I am committed to making it work.”
