West Palm Beach, FLA (November 19, 2012) – Just in time
for holiday giving, the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens has announced the
publication of their first children’s book, “The Awesome Adventures of Annie
V – Based on the Life of Ann Weaver Norton.” Pre-sales for the book are currently being offered
alongside one of its most integral characters, “Potsy”, a plush pooch that was
Ann Weaver Norton’s childhood pet dog.
The book, written on the childhood and true incidence
of Ann Norton’s life, was researched
and written by Cynthia E. Palmieri
and Pamela Larkin Caruso and illustrated
by nationally known artist, Henry Cole.
Says Ann Norton
Sculpture Gardens Executive Director and co-author Cynthia Palmieri, “The
book brings the young Annie Vaughan Weaver (later to be known as the sculpture
artist, Ann Norton) to life. The stories are written from her prospective as a
young child growing up in Selma, Alabama and features Ann’s inspirations as
well as details her adventurous nature that ultimately carried through to her
creations that are housed in and around The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens, our
cultural gem located in downtown West Palm Beach.
Says Programming
Director and co-author, Pamela
Larkin-Caruso, “The story encompasses several of the community enrichment
programs that the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens has developed since 2008
incorporating several key initiatives important to Norton and the Gardens
including: Environmental awareness, cultural education, visual art, literacy,
and preservation. With programming created to educate and enrich, the historic
Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens partnered with the City of West Palm Beach’s
Office of Sustainability received support from the Chastain
Charitable Foundation and private donors”
Early next year, visitors to the garden will have the
opportunity to check out a backpack compete with interactive worksheets,
activity plans and The Awesome Adventures of Annie V. Then the journey begins where they will be able
to explore using the book as a guide to discover the many workings that take
place at the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens and experience all the things about
nature that inspired Norton as an artist in a cross curriculum interactive
format. Children will be able to
record and journal about their findings in the activity sections in the book
and have it as a keepsake upon leaving the gardens.
